Which size should I choose?
Mini (up to 9L) for essentials and days out; Medium (up to 15L) if you carry a laptop up to 14" to work or uni; Large (up to 23L) for a 16" laptop, overnight trips or a gym kit. Every product page has a size guide with what fits.
Will it fit my laptop?
The Medium fits laptops up to 14" in a padded sleeve. The Large fits both 13" and 16" laptops. The Mini has a padded pocket for a tablet or iPad rather than a laptop.
Is it waterproof?
It's water-resistant: the recycled fabric sheds rain and spills, and the roll-top keeps the top closed. It isn't a dry bag for submersion, and we use no PFA coatings to get there.
What's the difference between the Original and the 2.0?
The Original is the first Hackney design, with two front pockets and a magnetic roll-top, now reduced while stock lasts. The 2.0 adds a single larger front pocket, a zip plus stronger magnets on the roll-top, long side pockets, extra back padding and a metal key hook. Same size, same warranty.
Can I wash it?
Yes. Machine wash at 30°C on a delicate setting, then air dry. Don't tumble dry or iron, and skip bleach and harsh chemicals.
Is the Large allowed as cabin luggage?
Yes. At 38 × 30 × 14 cm (plus the roll-top) the Large sits within standard cabin-bag limits for the major UK and European airlines, and the trolley-friendly shape makes it an easy carry-on.
How much is delivery, and can I return it?
Free UK delivery on orders over £70. Standard delivery is £3.95 (2–3 working days) and express is £6.50 (next working day). Order before 1pm Monday to Friday and we dispatch the same day. We currently deliver to the UK and the USA; US orders ship from our US warehouse with duties included. You have 30 days to return anything unused in its original packaging, sale items included, for a full refund. Every bag is also covered by our 2-year warranty against manufacturing defects.

The Hackney: a recycled backpack built for real days

The Hackney is the backpack Kind Bag is known for. Designed in London and made from rescued plastic bottles (17 of them in every Medium), it's a roll-top that works as hard on the commute as it does on a weekend away.

It comes in three sizes. The Mini (up to 9L) is for brunch, errands and days out, with a padded pocket for a tablet. The Medium (10L, 15L with the roll-top up, 490 g) fits a laptop up to 14", an A4 folder and a lunch bag, and is the everyday choice for commuters and students. The Large (up to 23L) takes a 16" laptop and a change of clothes, and is cabin-bag approved for overnight trips.

All three share the same design: water-resistant recycled fabric with no PFA coatings, a magnetic roll-top that expands when you need it, a hidden anti-theft pocket against your back, side pockets for a bottle, padded straps shaped for women's shoulders, and an internal key hook. They're machine washable at 30°C and covered by a 2-year warranty.

The Medium bag is surprisingly roomy, with just the right number and size of pockets. I chose the slate grey colour as it was reduced, so I got a bargain price as well! Bought as a carry-on bag for a transatlantic flight, and as a day pack for a lot of walking around NYC, it has been extremely comfortable. There was a hitch with the Royal Mail tracking and the Customer Services people were super-responsive and checked the delivery for me. Love Kind Bag!

You wouldn’t believe the number of backpacks I’ve been through as a neurodivergent SEND parent. I always need a bag large enough to accommodate my everyday needs (I have a lot of needs!) that I can just hoik on my back and fly out the door without worrying about the rain or what the bag does to my menopausal joints. This is perfect. It has a range of compartments including a secret pocket tucked in the side and a clasp on an elastic lead for your keys. Oh, and it’s made of recycled plastic bottles which ensures both its hardwearing nature and eco-credentials, AND comes in a range of mouth-watering shades. I had such a hard time choosing my colour but the fact that black was not the only choice had me skipping for joy! Much recommended ✨

I am thrilled with my navy medium Hackney backpack, bought at an extremely reasonable price in the sale. It is smart and incredibly practical, and can carry lots of my daily requirements without being too bulky - I've used it as a gym bag as well. I got caught in a heavy shower recently and everything inside stayed as dry as a bone. I love the compartments inside and out, and the straps are comfortable and easy to adjust. The bag is very well-made, with sturdy zips and magnet fasteners that function very well. I can see myself getting lots and lots of use out of it!
